What Counts as “Same-Day”

Most computer problems have two kinds of fixes: ones that need stock parts we have in the shop, and ones that need parts we have to order. Stock-part fixes are same-day. Here’s what that typically means in practice at our shops:

Same-day, walk-in (typically 1–4 hours on the bench)

• SSD upgrades — NVMe and SATA in common sizes. Most systems include a data migration from your old drive. See SSD upgrades.
• Desktop PSU replacement — most common 550W–850W 80+ Gold units in stock.
• Data-preserving OS reinstall — Windows 11 or macOS, with your files kept. See OS reinstall.

• Laptop or desktop not turning on (when it’s the PSU, RAM, or a disconnected cable).
• Password reset / locked-out-of-Windows recovery (with proof of ownership).

• Fan cleaning and repaste — quiets the machine and lowers temps.

Usually next-day (1 business day)

• Screen replacement — we stock the most common Dell, HP, Lenovo, and MacBook panels; specialty or high-DPI panels are ordered next-day.
• Laptop battery replacement — common models in stock; many ship overnight if not.
• Laptop keyboard / trackpad replacement — depends on brand.

2–5 business days (order parts or specialty work)

• Model-specific motherboard swaps (requires confirmed part availability).

• Complex data recovery with specialized hardware. See data recovery.
• Apple logic-board work on Apple Silicon machines.

Before You Head to the Shop — 4 Things That Save Time

Two minutes of prep before you leave the house can turn a next-day repair into a same-day one.

1. Bring the charger

For laptops, this is the single biggest one. If we can’t charge it, we can’t diagnose it. Most shops (including ours) don’t stock every proprietary charger in the world.

2. Write down the exact symptoms

Not “it’s broken” — the specific behavior. “Blue screens after about 20 minutes of video calls.” “Won’t charge unless I hold the cable at a specific angle.” “Fans spin but no image on screen.” This shortens the diagnostic and often gets you a same-day answer.

3. Know your password — or bring your Microsoft / Apple account info

We can’t finish most repairs without being able to boot into your account and run final tests. If you’ve forgotten your login, no problem — we can still repair it, but it adds time.

4. Back up what you can, if you can

If your computer still boots, copy your most important files to an external drive or OneDrive/iCloud/Google Drive. Most repairs don’t touch your data, but it’s a good habit — and if your drive is on the edge of failing, it can turn a “repair” into a “data recovery” conversation, which takes longer. Call Ahead — and We’ll Pre-Block the Bench

If you want the absolute fastest turnaround, call the shop before you leave the house. We’ll:

• Confirm we have the right parts in stock for your model.
• Block a technician’s time for when you arrive.
• Give you an honest ETA before you drive out.

What to Do If You’re Not Local

Oceanside-based but headed to a meeting in San Diego? We also offer:

• Remote IT support — we can fix software issues over a secure, permission-based session without you leaving your desk. Outlook, printers, Wi-Fi, account recovery, application setup, and most virus / browser-hijacker cleanups can all be done remotely.
• Mail-in repair — same-day turnaround once we receive it; we’ll ship it back overnight if needed.

The “Is It Worth Rushing?” Question

Before you ask us to rush a repair, it’s worth asking yourself whether your device is actually recoverable in the time window you have. Our honest rule of thumb:

• Software / virus / OS issue: almost always worth rushing. Under $200 and often same-day.
• Drive failure: don’t rush the repair — rush the data recovery decision. Continuing to use a failing drive to meet a deadline is the single most common way people lose everything.
• Cracked screen you can still see through: finish today’s urgent work first, then repair tomorrow. Running on a cracked panel costs you nothing.

• Ransomware / account compromise: treat it like an emergency. Come in today.
• 5+ year-old laptop with multiple failing components: come in — but expect a candid “repair vs. replace” conversation. Rushing a machine back to life that’s on its last legs is usually money poorly spent.
